History of the Country Rose: The original work was created in 1999 and sold to a Hollywood set designer via a gallery exhibition. This work actually has two artist signatures, as it is the first time Nicole used a larger signature as part of the design of the piece. The gallery exhibiting the piece found this signature effect popular, and asked that all the Nicole van Dam works supplied to the gallery incorporate Nicole's larger signature. Through the years Nicole collectors have expressed to the Artist their enjoyment in finding her signature hidden in the works. History of the I Love You Mom: The original work was created in 2005 and was given to Nicole's mother for her birthday/Mother's Day. This work is the first work in which Nicole used nearly invisible artistic writing, running diagonally across the painting, to write the words "I Love You Mom." History of the Contemplating Eve: The original work was created in 2001, inspired by Nicole's grandmother and Nicole's own thoughts on aging, and the need to see beauty in all stages of our lives. The orginal of this work was sold via a gallery sale. Begun during some difficult years in 2001 and completed during a far happier time in this transitional period in the Artist's life, the Roses of Conquest original work was completed in 2004 during a far happy time in this transitional period in the Artist's life. The roses, including green roses, are central to the conquest theme of this unique work. This work is the first work the Artist chose to hang in her Santa Barbara studio gallery, as a symbol that she had indeed conquered some difficult times. To date the Artist has received several offers to purchase the original of this work, none of which has been accepted. Created during the Kosovo war and inspired by how the the sky appears through tree branches, the War and Peace original work was created in 2000. The cherry tree blossoms, so often a symbol of peace, here have daubs of red color, and the sky is not quite a peaceful blue. This work was inspired by the lovely, historic California Mission at Santa Barbara. The Mission at Santa Barbara original work was created in 2005 and was the first painting created in Nicole's Santa Barbara studio. The original of this work had multiple offers to purchase it within hours of completion, and was sold to the first purchaser, with the second purchaser acquiring a Limited Edition of the work. It was because of the high demand for this work that the Artist began issuing Limited Editions of her works. Look closely at this unique work, starting with the shoes of the voters, and you will see in the voting booth curtain above the voter's shoes what these voters might be voting for, all created to make the voting booth curtains almost look like stain glass, representing the sanctity and importance of our individual right to vote.
